Making Our House a Home

When we bought this house we knew it needed some work. What we were not aware of was just HOW MUCH work it needed! In the 10 months we have lived here we have replaced all the carpet (it was only 30 years old), repainted the entire house (who doesn't love yellow, green, dark purple and red walls?? ME!!),
replaced nearly every light fixture (the previous owners had a thing for track lighting and bare light bulbs), installed shelves in the laundry room and countless other little things. The list of what remains to be done is far from finished. Oh well, we are taking it one project at a time and learning to love making it our own.
This last Saturday we decided to take on some out door projects. Our front yard needed some attention. It started out looking like this:
Well, not exactly like this. I actually took this picture after we had already worked on it some. Imagine it with a lot more weeds and dead stuff. It looked terrible. But, here is the after picture:
Nothing too major, but let me tell you the difference it makes to not have weeds and dead leaves over powering all those nice lilies. They even have little buds forming and soon will have flowers. Most beautiful indeed with out the weeds!

Then, as we were finishing up some friends of ours stopped by and we enjoyed visiting with them for a little while. We love having friends! Here are our kids playing together in the trunk of our car:
