Grandpa Mecham

Today is Father's Day, and while I definitely have many fathers in my life that I love and cherish and celebrate, today my thoughts are turned to a father that I didn't get to know as well as I would have liked. However, what I do know about this man I love and admire. One year ago today (well actually tomorrow, the 17th) David's grandfather passed away. I only had the privilege of knowing him for 10 short years. But in that small amount of time I came to know him as kind, giving, and practical. He had a great sense of humor and an infectious laugh. He loved his sheep and he could grow the best cantaloupe you have ever tasted! Truly I love this man. I love him for the example he was to David and the love he had for his family. Two years ago we took our family to visit Grandpa in Vernal, UT. His health had not been good for sometime and although we hoped and prayed otherwise, we knew that this might be our last opportunity to visit with him in this life. Indeed it was. I am so grateful for the time we had to spend with him that summer. I am grateful for the time my children had to spend with their great grandfather. And I am grateful for the wonderful legacy he left for his posterity. Happy Father's Day, Grandpa! We love you!

I love this picture of David and his grandpa. I wish I knew what they were talking about...
